Schedule a Conditional Release Restricted Assignment

You can require your students to achieve a threshold score on a specified assignment before they can move on to the next assignment.

Use conditional release restrictions to ensure students understand certain concepts before moving on, or to require a "starter" assignment such as a placement quiz or survey.

Before scheduling a conditional release restricted assignment, schedule the prerequisite assignment. This is the assignment your students must complete before they start the restricted assignment.

  1. Schedule the assignment, if you have not already done so.
  2. Open the Schedule page and navigate to the assignment.
    1. Open the My Classes page.
    2. Click Class Schedule under Class Tools.
    3. Click a scheduled assignment in the Assignments list to view the week for which it is scheduled.
  3. Beside the assignment, click Actions button > Edit Restrictions.
  4. Select Conditional Release.
  5. Enter the threshold score that your students must achieve.
  6. Select the prerequisite assignment on which your students must achieve the threshold score.
Note Do not change the prerequisite assignment after students have begun work on the current assignment.
  7. Optional: Allow students to complete the restricted assignment after a specified date, even if they did not meet the threshold score on the prerequisite assignment.
    1. Select Automatically waive restriction for all students after.
    2. Set the date and time after which the restriction is automatically waived.
  8. Click Save.

Conditional release restricted assignments are indicated with a conditional release icon conditional assignment icon.

Conditional release restricted assignments are disabled for students until they achieve the threshold score.
